WHAT IS 12 for 2012?

Thinker Duneier

Update: 2012 RESOLUTIONS COMPLETED (Dec. 27, 2012)

2012 will be defined by the two challenges I have undertaken as this year’s resolutions. This blog is intended solely for the purpose of chronicling the journey that results.

The resolutions for 2012 come in 2 categories:

Learning Resolutions: Learn to do 12 new things. I’m looking for quirky, seemingly difficult things that most people marvel at, yet could be accomplished if you just make an effort and have the discipline and tenacity to stick with it.

  1. Unicycle
  2. Slackline
  3. Jumping Stilts
  4. Knit (Yarn Bomb)
  5. Play Drums
  6. Ballroom Dance
  7. Eat Right (Vegan)
  8. Parkour
  9. Social Media
  10. Mindfulness
  11. Rope (Lasso)
  12. Conquer Headaches

Giving Resolutions: Do 12 charitable things that don’t involve writing a check. I’m looking to inspire others and myself to be more caring and considerate by gaining a new perspective. It’s an attempt to pierce the bubble of my world.

  1. Build Homes
  2. Foster the Puppy
  3. Donate Marrow
  4. Image Mitzvah
  5. Warm Up America
  6. League of Professional Educators
  7. Musical Mold (Pay It Forward 1)
  8. Learning Adventures (Pay It Forward 2)
  9. Chez Magnifique (Pay It Forward 3)
  10. Stranded Hiker
  11. Book Drop
  12. Donate Organs

Aborted Resolutions: Sometimes even the best laid plans fail.

  1. Donate Blood
  2. Donate Sperm
  3. Donate Hair

I encourage you to participate by following the blog, submitting suggestions for my lists and if you’ve been inspired to do your own thing, PLEASE share your stories.

My Other Resolutions

  1. Let me just say how much impression and influence “12for2012” has on me.

With the Olympics approaching, as you can imagine, every day in London we see or hear about “London 2012″… And every time I spot an article, receive an email about the Olympics or go past a poster, I stop and think: “Steve! 12for2012! New addition to the blog! Must read!” πŸ™‚

It’s a split second, until I realise but still, it makes me smile every time.

  2. I’m impressed, in so many ways. I’ve recently begun a Resolution Revolution, which you can read about on my blog, and I’d like to link to yours in an upcoming post. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. I just wanted to share with you that this blog has had such a positive effect on me. I found it by chance, surfing the web for stories and pictures of yarn bombing, I thought of how fun it would be to do some bombing myself. Then, I found you! And what a bomb it was! I have already decided that I will bomb something, somewhere in Pittsburgh next year.
Outside of the bomb, it has just been a pleasure to follow you on your latest quest. You have inspired me to do more, care more, and to just take more time. I may have to β€˜steal’ your resolution blog idea, in some form or another, because there can be only one thing better than having all of these resolutions and reaching them, and that would be having a whole bunch of people to share it with!

Good luck on the remainder of the 12! I will send some ideas your way if I think of any!

    • Cathy, I started doing this back in 2007, but it wasnt until this year that Ive had anyone really following my escapades. Ive always written about them as though someone was actually reading it because putting yourself out there and proclaiming that you’re going to do something adds a certain amount of pressure to stay disciplined and all of us need that carrot at some point. You say I have inspired you (the greatest compliment as far as im concerned) but u were the one who inspired me. Your words and actions when i needed them made the yarn bomb a reality. When u start ur blog i will be ur 1st follower and hope at some point i will repay ur favor. Steve

  4. I have decided to follow your exploits. I look forward to seeing where it leads me. Maybe I will be inspired as well. The yarn bomb got me.
